Social Responsibility

Over the past years, the request for financial assistance from members of the community has increased exponentially.(no doubt as a result of an ever failing economy). As such it has been become apparent that we need to attempt to formalise when, where and how we assist with any donations. The policy listed below is an attempt by us to do just that.

If you are in the need of any assistance, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will gladly investigate the request and get back to you as soon as possible with an answer. The charitable organisations that are short listed at present are listed below the policy.

This policy has been developed to assist Robberg Fine Foods in administering its annual Donations Budget as well as providing guidance on the allocation of funds to applicants. The maximum funds available for donations will be determined by the Management of Robberg Fine Foods in the budget each financial year.

2.                 To provide clear procedures for staff when responding to requests for donations.

Criteria

It has been decided that Robberg Fine Foods will donate only to institutions that are nominated by the staff.

  1. Robberg Fine Foods will not donate to any churches or sporting events as there are just too many.
  2. Robberg Fine Foods will only donate to places within the Plettenberg Bay area.
  3. Robberg Fine Foods reserves the right to, at its discretion, grant or not grant any donation request received.

Short list

Bitou 10 foundation: Bitou 10 is a private-sector intervention whose support and enrichment programmes is aimed at improving the 10 public schools in the rural parts of the greater Bitou region from Kranshoek to the Crags.

The Bitou 10 schools educate some 6 250 children and serve a total local population of 59 000 people living in a regional council area measuring 1 000 square kilometres. In the high holiday season the Plettenberg Bay population swells dramatically to 130 000 for six weeks and again in April to some 80 000. The Bitou 10 schools represent a microcosm of the South African schooling system, two of the schools serve relatively well-off communities and their performance is good to excellent, while the remainder are poor.

Invicta House

Construction of the Safeplace Shelter (Invicta House), a project of the PBAFfunded by the IP for to serve as a home for abused women and children, has been completed and the House Mother has been employed. The need for the shelter arose because of problems encountered by police and social workers in following protocol when assisting abused women and their children, as no shelter existed. The Bitou Municipality then granted the Forum the use of a ruined farmhouse and some land to create a shelter and a program to protect and rehabilitate abused woman.

Whilst the construction process has been completed the shelter is still faced with huge challenges which include finding the so called abused women, ongoing funding to sustain the project, proper management of their finances, empowerment (capacity building) and an effective exit policy for these women. The latter, being important, could be one of the determining factors as to whether the shelter has been successful in meeting its aims.

With regards to the above, meetings have been held with the Department of Social Services, FAMSA and the police to drive  home the policy and procedures of Invicta House. A schedule of volunteer counselors has been drawn up to ensure that there’ll always be a trained person at the shelter on a day to day basis. The shelter is already assuming the role of a hub for related services and serving as coordinator for cases of abuse.

To sustain the project, the Forum is planning to rent office space in the shelter, which will increase income immediately, to apply for funding from the National Lottery Board for a vehicle for the shelter and the utilization of volunteers. The Forum also plans to  establish a permaculture project and in due course will link with the Department of Agriculture. Alongside the grounds of the House, South Cape College is establishing their Plett campus and this will provide training and courses suitable for the beneficiaries of Invicta House. There is no doubt that the Forum will do its utmost best to sustain the project. This has been evident in the construction process where they used students in the construction process, got donations from builders for material and used furniture donated by hotels and the local community. This was a good public relations strategy for the shelter which made them to come under budget.

A Place of Hope

This is a small private home where orphan children are place by social workers awaiting their fate. The "orphanage" currently has 6 beautiful children between the ages of 6 months and 1year 8 months. All have parents that are not fit to look after them.

There is no official funding for this project and donations from the community are paramount. Robberg would like to offer Celia what ever assistance she currently needs. We are also attempting to get the staff more involved with the project and make them aware of needs in their community and what they can do to help one another.
