White stumpnose (Rhabdosargus globiceps) is a commercially fished species that is endemic to southern Africa’s temperate coasts. Recent studies suggest that this species exists in four separate stocks: Walvis Bay, Saldanha-Langebaan Lagoon, False Bay and Port Elizabeth. Due to the apparent decline in capture in Saldanha Bay, conservation has become one of the focal points of Marine and Coastal Management, a division of the Department of Environmental Affairs. In this project we will determine whether the four R. globiceps stocks are genetically different from one another and whether they require different management strategies. Source: www.saiab.ac.za
