Meal Ideas & Recipes 

We’ve put together a list of scrumptious meal ideas, with recipes to accompany them. Many of these meal ideas can serve a family of four people from under R150!

You’ll find all the ingredients at the Robberg Store and if you have any queries you are welcome to ask our shop staff who will be happy to assist you in finding the right product.

 

Chorizo & Mozzarella Pasta Bake

What you’ll need:

  • Chorizo 120g
  • Granoro Penne Rigate 500g
  • Lancewood Mozzarella
  • Pomi Chopped Tomato can 400g
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 onion chopped, 2 garlic cloves crushed, 1 teaspoon caster sugar, 1 bunch basil torn, green salad to serve

Instructions:

  • Heat Oil in medium pan, medium heat, and fry the onion & garlic (8 min)
  • Add 120g diced Chourico & fry for 5 minutes
  • Add 2 tins diced tomato & sugar, & season to taste
  • Bring to a simmer, add the pasta and cook (8 min)
  • Stir 100g Mozzarella & most of the basil into the pan
  • Pour everything into a baking dish, top with mozzarella & grill in oven for 3 minutes
  • Season, garnish with remaining basil, and serve with a green salad

Sauteed Prawns with Basmati Rice

What you’ll need:

  • Queen Equador Prawns 21/25 Deveined
  • Basmati Rice 1kg
  • Lemon & Herb marinade Carbsmart 330ml
  • 1kg Tuna steak
  • 200g Butter
  • Chopped garlic to taste
  • 2 Lemons, cut in quarters

Instructions:

  • Marinade prawns (30 min)
  • Start cooking basmati rice as per instructions on packet (15 min)
  • In a frying pan melt the butter and add garlic
  • Add prawns & leftover marinade to pan and saute on high (5 min)
  • Add lemon wedges and enjoy

Quick Haddock Pie for 4

What you’ll need:

  • Haddock
  • Today’s Puff Pastry Roll 400g
  • Homemade Fish Stock 500ml Frozen
  • Leeuwenbosch Fresh Milk 2L
  • 250g butter, 1 onion, 250g flour, 2 tablespoons mustard powder, 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  • In a pot, melt butter on low heat
  • Add diced onion and cover (4 min)
  • Add flour & stir (3 min)
  • Whisk in 500ml milk, fish stock & mustard powder & simmer till thick
  • Add 1kg haddock, & cook till firm (12 min), then add parsley
  • Transfer into an ovenproof dish and top with puff pastry (egg-washed)
  • Bake in preheated oven at 180 for 20-25 minutes, till the pastry is golden & crispy

Tuna Sesame Medallions

What you’ll need:

  • 1kg Tuna steak
  • Honey
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • White sesame seeds
  • Ginger
  • Soy sauce, fresh red chilli (optional), fresh coriander (optional for garnishing) & pasta (to serve with the tuna)

Instructions:

  • Cut tuna into medallions
  • Mix ingredients: oil & soy 50/50, a squeeze of honey, handful of grated ginger & chilli to taste. Allow to marinade for 2-4 hours.
  • Prepare pasta per packet instructions
  • Stirfry the tuna, turning often 
  • Heat the marinade separately & pour afterward over the cooked pasta
  • Serve with pasta and enjoy…

Kassler Steak with Butternut & Spinach

What you’ll need:

  • 1kg Kassler steak
  • 500g butternut, cut
  • Young spinach leaves
  • Honey mustard dressing, paprika, cumin and a teaspoon of chopped garlic

Instructions:

  • In a frying pan, cook the butternut & garlic in a bit of oil. Add a pinch of paprika & cumin
  • Add the spinach at the very end. 
  • In a hot griddle pan, cook the Kassler steak 2-3 minutes on each side, until browned & slightly crispy.
  • Serve the Kassler steak with the honey mustard dressing and the butternut & spinach dish.

Thai Sweet Soy Chicken Stirfry

Instructions:

  • Brown the sliced chicken breast fillet in a large saucepan (flavour to taste with your choice of salt/spice)
  • Add 4 cakes of egg noodles (half the packet) and a cup of boiling water 
  • Add 200ml Sweet Soy Sauce and let it simmer (4 minutes) 
  • Add the veg stirfry mix and mushrooms (sliced), and cook while stiring regularly (5 minutes) 
  • Serve and enjoy!

Super Quick Beef Ragu

What you’ll need:

  • 1kg lean beef mince
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 punnet mushrooms
  • 500g penne pasta 
  • 2 carrots, 1 tablespoon Worcester sauce, 200ml red wine and grated hard Italian cheese

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan, boil the pasta with a pinch of salt in water (9 minutes)
  • Meanwhile, in a large frying pan, brown 500g mince in a bit of oil (4-5 minutes)
  • Add 2 coarsely grated carrots and 1 punnet chopped mushrooms with a pinch of italian herbs to the mince
  • Stir in the chopped tomatoes, add a cup of red wine & Worcester sauce (4-5 min)
  • Drain the pasta and then mix the pasta with the sauce
  • Serve in bowls and dress with grated Italian hard cheese

Prawn Braai

Instructions:

  • Prepare the fire for direct cooking over high heat
  • Drizzle olive oil over the flesh side of the prawns
  • Marinate the prawns in peri peri or lemon & herb sauce
  • Braai the prawns over direct high heat for 2 min on each side
  • Serve with lemon wedges & Dego’s Peri Peri as dipping sauce

Angelfish Braai

Instructions:

  • Prepare the fire for direct cooking over high heat
  • Wrap sweet potatoes in foil and place in fire (30 minutes)
  • Put the marinated fish fillet flesh side down on the grid for 2 minutes
  • Turn the fish onto the skin side for a further 5 minutes
  • Season to taste and serve

Cottage Pie

What you’ll need:

  • 1 x 1kg Potatoes
  • 1/2 kg Fresh Mince
  • 1 x 500g Sweet & Crunchy Veg

Instructions:

  • Cook and mash the potatoes
  •  Brown mince, onion and garlic
  • Add vegetables
  • Once cooked, spoon mince mix into oven dish
  • Add mash potatoes on top of the mince
  • Bake until mash is brown

Salmon Pasta

What you’ll need:

  • 1 x 500g Salmon Offcuts
  • 1 x Linguine Pasta 500g
  • 1 x 250ml Fresh Cream

Instructions:

  • Fry salmon offcuts in butter with garlic black pepper and garlic
  • Boil pasta in water
  • Stir fresh cream into the salmon
  • Dish pasta into bowls and spoon salmon on top and serve

Stir Fry

What you’ll need:

  • 1 x Basic Stir Fry Pack
  • 1/2 kg Beef Strips
  • 1 x Egg Noodle Pack

Instructions:

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Stir fry the beef strips, garlic and ginger
  • Add stir fry veg and Stir fry Sauce
  • Boil Egg Noodles until cooked and add to the meat and veg for the last couple of minutes of stir frying and serve

Spare Rib Braai

Instructions:

    • Prepare the fire for direct cooking over medium heat
    • Braai the whole rack of ribs until nearly done (10 min)
    • Place corn on the cob on the grid, turning regularly
    • Remove the ribs from fire and cut them into riblets
    • Drop the riblets into a bowl of Jimmy’s marinade and leave for 2 minutes
    • Return ribs to fire and braai until done (about 3 minutes)
    • Serve with Roost multigrain sourdough bread

    Chinese Chicken and Rice

    What you’ll need:

    • 1 x Froggit Stir Fry Sauce 150ml
    • 1/2 kg Chicken Breast Fresh
    • 1 x 1kg Basmati White Rice

    Instructions:

    • Thinly slice the chicken

    • Fry in pan/wok with oil adding Garilc and Ginger and Chillies

    • Add generous amount of Froggit Wok and Stir Fry sauce

    • Thinly slice some carrots and cabbage/spinach and fry with chicken

    • Boil some Jasmine rice til soft and fluffy

    • Serve chicken on top of the rice with lemon wedge.
