Team Robberg takes 3rd place at Langebaan regatta
The Robberg flag was flown high over the past weekend at the Hobie 16 EC/WC Provincial Championships Regatta in Langebaan in the Western Cape.
Robberg’s CEO, Blaine Dodds, with his very able crew, daughter Roxanne Rein, took third place overall in a hotly contested event run over three days with a total of 10 races. The sailors were treated to light to moderate winds in lovely weather throughout the weekend, making for enjoyable racing conditions. A total of 24 boats took part which allowed for some good competition on the water.
Sporting the well-known Robberg colours and large “R” on the mainsail, Blaine and Roxanne did well on the Saturday to earn a first-place, and they finished well enough in all the other races to secure them 3rd place overall. Regatta honours went to William and Lucinda Edwards of Plett, with second place going to Paul and Jayden Lagesse (Cape Town). Other Plett locals who competed include Richard Ayres (7th), Douglas Edwards (9th) and Andrew Rissick (10th).
Blaine announced over the weekend that the upcoming summer season in Plettenberg Bay would see the return of the Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta which takes place annually. Holidaymakers will be able to see the colorful catamarans competing in the bay from 17th to 19th December.
“I’m really encouraged to see such a strong fleet at this weekend’s regatta and am confident that the Eastern and Western Cape skippers and their crew will make their way down to Plett for our annual regatta over the upcoming Christmas holidays,” said Blaine.
The Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta takes place at Hobie Beach in Plett, with The Bungalow serving as the base for all the happenings during the event.
