The very first Wedge Classic Surfing and Bodyboarding contest took place back in 1996, and Wayne Craig of Robberg Seafoods was the winner.

The event took place every year during the 1990s and early 2000s with the last event having been in 2015. At it’s height, there were up to 225 entrants!

Almost 30 years after the first event, and after taking a break during the Covid years, the Wedge Classic is making a comeback. Wayne (pictured above) once again took part in the 2024 edition, which took place during the week of the 2024 Plett Ocean Festival, achieving a well-deserved 4th place in the Bodyboarding Open Class.

Wayne’s wife, Vashti, achieved a commendable 2nd place in the Surfing Open Class, and also came 4th in the Bodyboarding Open Class.
