Penguin release streamed live from Lookout beach in Plett

by | Jun 19, 2020 | News, Videos

Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation and Awareness Centre has released four penguins this morning from Lookout beach in Plett.

Tenikwa does an incredible job working long hours to get all stranded penguins in our area ready for release back into the bay. Nature’s Valley Trust facilitates the local beach releases with them, which many of you have been to over the last few years. Penguin rehabilitation is a tricky business, and Tenikwa are the only rehab centre in our region who carry the necessary permits and expertise to do this important work.

This release they were unable to allow spectators, due to the Covid-19 Lockdown, but Plett Tourism live streamed the event so that their followers could watch it as the event unfolded.

Penguins are HUNGRY when in rehab, and the fish used to get them fit and ready for release are expensive. Robberg Fine Foods have joined forces with Nature’s Valley Trust to make a plan to help! We have set up a ring-fenced account where anyone can donate funds that will be used by Tenikwa to purchase fish for penguins and other seabirds.

Please consider making a small donation into the account below, with the reference of TEN002.
